BIG FLAT ELECTRIC CO-OP
Encourages Members To have an Emergency Source of Power
With all the outages, members are encouraged to have an emergency source of power for heat, lights, water and refrigeration and to have appropriate safety measures installed before using such emergency power sources as standby generators.
Big Flat Electric will install the proper equipment at your meter for free if your service does not have one. (Members only have to pay for the parts.)
When hooking up a generator, please do so SAFELY!
- Generators can be dangerous to lineman working to restore power if they are improperly hooked up.
- Never connect a generator directly to your home's wiring unless your home has been wired for generator use. This can cause backfeeding along power lines and electrocute anyone coming in contact with them, including lineworkers making repairs.
- Ensure your generator is properly grounded.
- Never overload a generator. A portable generator should only be used when necessary to power essential equipment or appliances.
CALL BEFORE YOU DIG
